What an amazing (and full on) couple of weeks we’ve just had!

Not only have some of our staff taken part in the largest ambulance mutual aid exercise ever held, but we’ve held our annual trainer refresher day AND embraced the crazy world of social media for WFA.

Exercise Amber took place over two days in London.  It’s goal was to test the capability of every ambulance service in the country to work together resolving a wide range of medical emergencies, from collapsed buildings & emergencies at height, to chemical attacks on boats and casualties in the Thames.

A video is available here – http://www.itv.com/news/London/update/2012-05-06/huge-emergency-services-training-exercise-ahead-of-games/.

Three of our training staff took part (including yours truly, who drew a long straw for once and managed to stay dry). Virtual cookies are up for grabs if you can spot us in the video!

It’s amazing just how well it all worked out.  Considering that over 500 staff members were involved, I think it’s safe to say that everyone performed to excellent standards.  It’s been decided that it’s going to be a yearly thing.  Very much looking forward to it!

Our trainers refresher course was held at the Braintree Community Centre.  It’s a great way for us to get everyone together to discuss ideas, improvements and syllabus changes.  We even managed to work through some scenerios (pictures available on our facebook page – http://www.facebook.com/workingfirstaid).

Much discussion was had regarding the changes that may be coming our way after the Lofsted report.  If you havn’t heard about it, don’t worry – we’ll make a dedicated post about it as soon as we know exactly where the first aid training industry is headed.

Which leads nicely on to the last part of this update.  We have taken the decision to fully embrace Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube & FlickR.  So, please come join us on each.  We’d love to hear from you!

Till next time, have a great & safe week.
